As of yesterday at around 1pm all of my (2) google account

Customer Question

Hello, as of yesterday at around 1pm all of my (2) google account folders have disappeared.
the contents of the files - gone.
all of my client files - empty.
At the bottom of my Mac Email client is a message that (the message comes and goes)
stating that anywhere from 800k to over 1.6 million incoming emails are being processed.
What's happened? I did change my password ***** one of my accounts recently, but this is bizarre. I may have been zealous about cleaning up emails, could have deleted archived emails , not sure. Just recovering from major surgery and a bit hazy about last week, but this just started to show up as a problem yesterday. HELP!

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have two email accounts and one yahoo. the yahoo account files and contents are intact. I access all three through my Mac Email app.
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
Understood. Have you logged in to mail.google.com to see if your inbox appears correctly?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yes. the folders are empty there, too.
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
So I think the issue isn't with your mac mail client but rather your gmail account itself..have you checked your trash folder in gmail?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yes of course. Now "mail activity says i have 17 million ++ incoming messages. what is happening?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
trash goes back to june 5 2015
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
Could you tell me how you have gmail connected? Is it via POP3 or Gmail?
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
Sorry I mean Pop3 or IMAP?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
imap
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hah, my mail activity now says in have >18 milllion incoming messages.. what is that and how do I stop it?
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
are you syncing with any other devices like a phone or tablet?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yes, but not "actively"- I mean that I have my gmail set up on my iphone and on my macbook air.
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
Have you checked those devices to see if your inbox appears correctly?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yes, all folders are empty. Could I have deleted everything by "deleting" or attempting to delete archived mail?
If so is this mail recoverable?
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
It's pretty difficult to delete all emails at once..did you attempt an archive on mac mail?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
I am really stumped at this point..the only thing I could offer now is additional services for a remote screen sharing session so I can dig around on your computer to see what might have happened..would you want to do that?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
sure, I only have a few minutes
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hello, are you there? Is there a way to contact google for help, or is all help only available through forums?
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
They have a phone support number, but i've heard varying things about the results from that.

It would probably take longer then a few minutes...we could make the arrangements now and set an appointment to get back connected if that works?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
so you've never heard of someone getting this message saying x millions of incoming mail being processed?
Do you think it's because I tried to delete archived messages? Are items in mail folders (other than inbox) considered to be archived?
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
Not necessarily, and with IMAP if the folders fall under the inbox tree it would still be part of the inbox.
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
Not necessarily millions, but yes I have seen mail get confused and show some random numbers processing when it does not have correct data
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
sure, let's do a screen share . I'll be back at my desk at 12:15 or so. 12:15 pm PST. Can that work?
Expert:  A. Stevens replied 1 year ago.
sure, that's in 2 hours correct?no problem, we can connect then. please accept the offer and I am sending instruction on how to connect.

I just spent $35, I could see this becoming a multi-hundred dollar issue. I will try a google post for now. Thanks.
