yourITpro :

Hi. Im Paul and would like to help you with this.

yourITpro :

Could you please confirm what you use to download your email (outlook, outlook express, thunderbird etc)?

Customer :

Hi Paul. I am not sure. I am using Internet Explorer and Windows Live Mail so whatever that is. I went through the Control panel and tried to verify what the settings are but couldn't even find that info.

Customer :

Also, I can send mail OK. I tried setting up a new comcast account to confirm settings but got a 2nd account.

yourITpro :

ok thanks for that

yourITpro :

You must be using live mail by the sounds of things.

Customer :

I am.

yourITpro :

so when you created the second account, did this work?

Customer :

It did work and downloaded a lot of mail. I deleted the account, but I am thinking it was everything not read including old ones. I have a lot of folders which contain files for my HOA - I am on the board and an officer, and I need to be able to access those.

yourITpro :

ok. I see

yourITpro :

So can you still access the original account in live mail? I can then go through where to check the settings.

Customer :

Yes, I can access and send, just not download. Let's go!

Customer :

I am using Windows Live Mail on my desk top - not live mail on the internet.

yourITpro :

ok

yourITpro :

so lets go into live mail then

yourITpro :

Right when your in live mail please tell me

Customer :

OK it's open.

yourITpro :

great. Now could you please click on the blue down arrow (top right)

yourITpro :

sorry top left even :)

yourITpro :

This will bring up a menu. Can you select options, then email accounts from it

Customer :

OK

yourITpro :

in email accounts you should see your account. I would like you to select it

Customer :

OK

yourITpro :

so if you can please click on the servers tab

yourITpro :

you there?

Customer :

I have it.

yourITpro :

great

yourITpro :

now half way down it states incoming mail server

yourITpro :

here you should have a username and password

Customer :

Right

yourITpro :

can you please check this and re-enter the password

Customer :

that's done

yourITpro :

right

yourITpro :

can you click on ok for me

yourITpro :

then close on the next windows

Customer :

OK that's done.

yourITpro :

now please click on update all icon. Which you can see right at the top left (just above the home tab)

Customer :

I don't have any thing above the home tab. Hold on - I am rechecking.

yourITpro :

its a tiny icon with two envelopes

Customer :

Maybe I am missing a toolbar. I have a clear bar above with a tiny icon in the left cornber that shows what folder I am in. Nothing else.

yourITpro :

strange maybe a slightly different version of live mail

yourITpro :

ok if you close live mail and reopen it

yourITpro :

this will automatically check for email

Customer :

I found it. It's on the quick access tool bar which has been below my bar. I will click it now. OK it tells me there are no new messages. The only one I downloaded today was about 10 am.

Customer :

No I will close and reopen.

yourITpro :

thats good though. It should come up with an error if there is a problem

Customer :

No new messages or error message either.

yourITpro :

you get an error message if anything is wrong with the login information

yourITpro :

send yourself a test email

Customer :

OK

yourITpro :

let me know how it goes

Customer :

OK, it doesn't show on my desktop but it is in comcast email. And my desktop chimed like it does when new messages appear,

yourITpro :

ok click on inbox in live mail

yourITpro :

then make sureyou have scrolled all the way to the top

Customer :

OK.

Customer :

I have.

yourITpro :

is it there?

Customer :

No.

yourITpro :

in quick views (3/4 the way up on the left) click on unread

Customer :

OK

yourITpro :

is it in there

Customer :

I just took quick views off a day or 2 and don't remember where I did that,

Never used it and it was using real estate.

yourITpro :

ok

yourITpro :

go to view tab and quick views is in there

Customer :

OK

yourITpro :

any luck?

Customer :

I see the quick views up there but I'm not finding a way to put it back on my main page. It was listed on the right above the inbox.

yourITpro :

on the view tab just make sure quick views is hihglited

yourITpro :

highlited

Customer :

Oops. It was listed on the top above the inbox. I have it set now to view all mail - tried updating - no luck.

yourITpro :

thats really strange

Customer :

Done.

yourITpro :

can u see anything in there at all

yourITpro :

you said you heard the noise so it must be hiding somehwre

Customer :

In quick view? It opens a page where options can be selected. The unread mail is checked but grayed out, I tried checking show all mail and then updating but no action.

yourITpro :

so if you click on the arrow next to the quick views it should show u new mail

yourITpro :

when you click the arrow a new mail option will show undeneath

Customer :

That's what I was thinking too but sure don't find it. It doesn't ding every time but once in a while. It is set to update every ten minutes. I wll look for new mail.

Customer :

That works ok.

yourITpro :

has an email come through?

Customer :

Nothing is coming in - including the test I sent myself.

yourITpro :

thats strange

yourITpro :

ok

yourITpro :

ok try this

yourITpro :

While in the Inbox: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages is checked and nothing else.

Customer :

The only other checked is the grayed check at the top for all unread.

yourITpro :

right go into your proper inbox

yourITpro :

then click view tab

Customer :

OK

yourITpro :

customize view

yourITpro :

then in second box does it say hide or show

Customer :

I have new view - no customize

yourITpro :

sory i meant go on the view tab

yourITpro :

then click view

yourITpro :

then customizeview

Customer :

OK, I have it.

yourITpro :

it should bring up a box

Customer :

Have that.

yourITpro :

in the middle box it will say for all messages ....... the message

yourITpro :

does it say hide or show

Customer :

Show.

yourITpro :

not that then

yourITpro :

in your inbox, could you tell me the date of your last message

yourITpro :

the message at the top last one received

Customer :

The last one was 9:54 am today. One only. I had two yesterday. Probably had 15 emails today and 25 yesterday. I am ready for a break. If you come up with any new ideas just text me and I will come back on. Thanks.

yourITpro :

ok im from the uk. So will get off now to be honest

yourITpro :

I will be about tomorrow if you are?

yourITpro :

Hi. It appears that I am not getting your messages?

yourITpro :

I will change this to a QA session, as it appears we are having issues with chat. It works similarly to chat, but you will need to refresh the page to see responses.

Sorry, we spent an hour and a half just confirming settings in the email program. I finally was able to solve the problem myself. Good bye.
