Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

If the phone is working, then the battery in it is working.

(This is of course, a reference to the portable or cordless handset. The corded phone has no battery in it for its display. So whichever one you are referring to, the corded or cordless phone in that model # - it is expandable you see - the battery is not at fault.)

The display is probably bad.

How old is the phone? has it been in storage for some time, perhaps?

Customer: replied 21 days ago.
It is sitting on her counter. I know I just got it for them a couple of years before my Dad died, and that is two years, so I think she has had it about 4 years.

what next

(I regret that I am not able to offer Live Phone Call service at this time; However, your request is still open to other Experts in this category, and one of them may pick up on it at any time.)

OK, at 4 years old, it is out of warranty for certain, and also reasonably old.

I'm sorry to say that the display backlight may have failed, or burned out.

Would you wish to try doing a total settings reset of the phone ?

Customer: replied 21 days ago.
how is that done
Expert:  Russell H. replied 21 days ago.

I am looking up information on that point. Please give me 10 or 20 minutes (I have a few other customers to help also just now, you understand...) and I will post again with info... if there is such an approach to this problem.

Thanks.

I have to ask - is the display that is not lit, on the cordless phone, or the corded phone?

Customer: replied 21 days ago.
corded phone
Expert:  Russell H. replied 21 days ago.

Thanks for clearing up that point.

I'm continuing to look for information.

Expert:  Russell H. replied 21 days ago.

I thought it might be the display brightness turned down. But the information I have says there is a display contrast adjustment but no display brightness adjustment nor control.

(Look for one nonetheless - it might be a small rotating control on an edge of the phone's base unit, perhaps. It might be not mentioned in the documentation I have.)

As for a reset of settings... since the only setting that is listed for the display is the Contrast (and no setting for brightness) then that is no matter. Also, I cannot find any such reset listed or mentioned anywhere, I'm sorry to have to report.

thank you for your help
guess I will just getting my mother a new phone
Expert:  Russell H. replied 21 days ago.

That might be a good idea.

You will be charged for something unless you could cancel your phone call request.

I would be paid nothing for the work I have done in that event.

I have no power over charges, billing, no access to your credit information. For all such concerns I must refer you to Customer Support at JustAnswer.com. They may be reached at
