Acer Aspire /M - 2 or 3 years old. Running Windows 7. All trouble shooting available for trying to define the problem. It is that I don't have an updated USB Driver. So, I updated it. Still nothing works. When I put the chip in, nothing pops up on the screen to let me know it has been installed.

Does this problem happen with all USB devices or just some?

When you connect a USB device and go to Computer, does it show there as an external device?

Let me know if you would like remote assistance to troubleshoot this.
