(1) Someone in Australia picks up the phone and answers it
(2) If an answering machine or voicemail service picks up the call.
Calls are only charged if someone or a device in Australia connects with the person in England. If the English caller hangs up before the call is answered, then there will be no charge to that person. In addition, if the phone rings until it stops ringing without any intervention from a voicemail service or answering machine in Australia, the call will not be charged to the English caller.
