I purchased a Symbol DS9208 scanner and am having difficulty

I purchased a Symbol DS9208 scanner and am having difficulty connecting it to my cash register, a Sharp XE-A507. I have scanned the programming option in this order: 1) Set Defaults 2) Enter Key 3) RS-232 Host Types (Standard RS-232), and 4) North American. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have another scanner available that you can use to test if the XE-A507 setup is ok and it is able to receive the barcode information?
