I feel really stupid. I am able to hear very clearly, however when I attempt to transmit I am not being heard on my Yaesu FM Transceiver VX-8? Do I have something wrong in my settings?

Do you get audio out in simplex or no modes at all? If so, do you have the repeater offset and tone programmed correctly? Do you have the Bluetooth turned on with no Bluetooth paired?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I get audio in all modes, I'm able to listen to various repeaters so I think they are programmed correctly. Blue Tooth is not turned on or paired.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
When I transmit I get no response from the other users on the frequency I'm listening to.
Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

I mean if you transmit on a simplex frequency, are you able to be heard?

Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

Are you hearing the repeater squelch tail when you unkey, indicating that you are getting into the repeater?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I have tried simplex frequency and have the same result.

Do you have a scanner that you can program 146.520 in and then transmit and see if you can hear yourself?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I can set frequency to 146.520, when I transmit I hear nothing.
Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

On another radio you hear nothing when you transmit?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I only have one radio, Im sorry I miss understood.
Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

Oh, okay. Well, the only way to tell would be to listen in on another radio. It may be that you are not getting into the repeater. Are you hearing the repeater squelch tail when you unkey, indicating that you are getting into the repeater?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No
Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

So you are probably not programmed correctly. Do you have your offset set correctly, +/- 600 and the tone set?

Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

What is a repeater frequency in your area?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
146.700 Menifee currently I'm in Riverside and there is a repeater here but I do not have the frequency with me.
Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

Okay, so your receive frequency should be 146.700 and when you transmit, it should show on the display that you are transmitting on 146.100. There may be a tone, oftentimes 100.0 Hz. Is that how you have it programmed?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It does.
Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

Actually, the tone on that repeater is 103.5.

Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

Do you have the tone programmed and turned on during transmit?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
When I Transmit it reads 146.100
Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

Does it also show that you have a CTCSS tone on?

Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

The attached pages how how to program the CTCSS tone. It should display TN when you key up if it is turned on.

Expert:  Kelly replied 6 months ago.

There are a ton of open repeaters in Riverside County, see the link below.
