What is the age of your camera ?
New bought it a couple of months ago
That means its under warranty.
That I don't know. I can't find the box it came in with that info
The most likely and common causes to this type of problem are:1. sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism.
2. camera's been dropped with the lens extended
3. the battery ran down with the lens extended
I've blown into the lens thinking something was in there and no it wasn't dropped and I did recharge the battery thinking that was the problem.
If you have tried the compressed air then the next step would be to take a thin piece of paper and try to just insert it little(not very deep)between the lens barrel to dislog or remove any dust particles stuck.
Just found the receipt of purchase 8/2013
Just tried the paper on both side of the lens cover and tried to turn it on and it didn't work.
Right now the green light around the on/off bottom is blinking?
I just pressed it again and it stopped..thought that might be a good sign :(
Place the camera on a flat table with the lens pointing to the roof of your house. Now, with a fresh set of batteries installed(without a memory card inside) hold down the shutter button while you power on the unit.
Connect your camera to your PC using USB cable. Once the camera gets power in this mode, the screen should stay off, hence, supplying the lens with more power to push or pull out/in.
Thanks for your patience.
It won't even turn on. I've tried pushing both buttons at the same time and separately.
Is it completely dead.
It shouldn't be. I just charged it yesterday thinking the battery was the problem. I've just tried to turn it on and nothing happens... no green light around the on/off button.
Maybe the battery is not holding a charge?
Its a battery problem otherwise the camera would not be dead.
OK I will buy another battery and hopefully that will work. Thanks
I don't recommend looking for the battery or lens or trying to see what the problem is in detail without help from the Nikon support team. The Camera is under warranty and they will either help you clear the Lens, or replace the battery, or replace it with a new one.
will do thanks by
