If the LCD display is not lighting up, then either it is not connected correctly, or the display is faulty.
The dealer will need to check the connection from the display to the main board. If the cable is connected correctly and undamaged, then the display will need to be replaced.
The screen started to fade over time so I take it is not a bad connection. If the screen it self is faulty where can I get hold of a new one. The dealer rather want to sell me a new mashine or charge me the price of a new mashine.
That definitely sounds like the screen has gone bad.
The screens were custom-made for Bernina, however this model has been discontinued, so replacement screens will be difficult to obtain.
You can get a replacement screen from another working Bernina machine, or Bernina Support may be able to supply you with one:
