Hello! My name is XXXXX XXXXX X am happy to be working with you today. Let's see if we can get your problem resolved!
Sometimes the system software can hijack the battery and prevent charging. Reload the system software by sliding or pressing and holding the power switch for 20 seconds. The Kindle should come back online within 3 minutes. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Try a hard boot. (Remove any cases first)

Plug the Kindle into the charger for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes and while still plugged in, hold down the power switch for one minute. Allow 3 minutes afterward for the Kindle to reboot.

Contact Kindle Warranty Support at(NNN) NNN-NNNN For a trade in fee they will ship a replacement out to you. This is much cheaper than purchasing a new Kindle outright in most cases.

Amazon saves all your purchases on the cloud, so there aren't any worries about losing data. Just make sure when you get your new one to register it with the same Amazon.com email address and password.

In the mean time you can read your books on other devices using these free applications:

Kindle for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch

Kindle for PC

Kindle for Mac

Kindle for Blackberry
