Customer Question

I have a handheld Megellan Explorist GC that I use for geocaching. Yesterday when I turned it on it stayed on the first login screen and will not progress forward. I have already tried the reset button (which will tempororily shut it off but it immediately comes back on and just cycles on that 1st screen). The only way to shut it off completely is to open the back and pull the batteries. It was never dropped or abused in any way. Please help!

  • Take out the batteries.
  • ----- Wait 20 minutes. -----
  • Clean the battery terminals in the battery bay.
  • Re-install the batteries.

I have pulled the batteries SEVERAL times and cleaned out the terminal (which show no corrosion or any other problem. Have also tried the reset button numerous times. Any other suggestions?

I have tried what he suggested and it didn't work. I have also pressed the reset button and it does nothing.

I don't think you quite understand my problem........When I turn the unit on, IT IS STUCK ON THE OPENING SCREEN. It will not go further so I cannot get to ANY other place i.e. to chose Menu or Tools or anywhere. I have pressed the restart, I have tried connecting to my PC (since I can't TELL it to connect that's useless) and the only way to shut it off is to remove the batteries (which are new). When I reinsert the batteries and press the "on" button, it just goes back to being stuck on the initial screen. Is there anything else I can do?
