  • Turn off the monitor.
  • Unplug the monitor cable from the computer.
  • Unplug the monitor power cord from the wall outlet.
  • ----- Wait 20 seconds. -----

  • Plug the monitor power cord back into the wall outlet but do not connect the monitor cable to the computer.
  • What message/display shows on the monitor?
  • If there is no message on the monitor, the monitor is defective.

Monitor said Cable not conected. Must repeatedly turn monitor off and on to get a feww seconds to view

  • Disconnect and reconnect both ends of the monitor cable.
  • Turn off the monitor.
  • Unplug the monitor power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Unplug the power cord at the monitor.
  • ----- Wait 20 minutes. -----
  • Re-apply power.

Only this one computer. Must turn on and off to get view

AM using affected. I must turn monitor off and on to get afew seconds of view of what's on computer

  • It sounds like the backlight (or the high-voltage inverter) of the monitor is failing.
  • If you shine a bright light at the monitor you should be able to see the shadows of the image.
  • The backlight is a special fluorescent bulb that wears out just like a regular light bulb.
  • The high-voltage inverter that feeds the fluorescent bulb also wears out.

  • Consider a new LED backlit monitor that doesn't have those light bulb/inverter problems.
  • LEDs usually last 20 years before burning out because they are not light bulbs and use low voltages.

  • If you want to repair it yourself you will have to disassemble the monitor and order the replacement bulb and the inverter.
