Jack :

Hi and welcome to justanswer.
I`m going to help you with your tv but first i will have a few questions;

Are you connected with a cable box/receiver,satellite receiver, digital converter etc ?

Is there sound on the blueray ?

Customer :

cable box that is digital. The other tv/box combo is working fine. Did not try the blue ray, and now i went ahead and tried the return to factory setting option and it is slowly moving through that. The tv was working fine when I turned it off last night.

Jack :

O.k but mainly you realized that there was no sound while watching tv through the cable box ?

Jack :

What is the tv doing right now ?

Jack :

scanning for channels ?

Jack :

I will be in standby , just send me a reply once you are ready

Customer :

Yes, the problem was noticed when I tried to watch the tv this morning. Still searching for channels and is finding none, even though the cable box is connected. this is so frustrating, and on top of it all I did not look closely enough to see that you are with some other company and not Sony.

Jack :

Actually you can stop the channel search because it is redundant at this point

Jack :

The cable box is the one handling the channels ,not the tv

Customer :

You can tell how much i know about this. It says no channels found

Customer :

The Blue ray works with a disk, sound and picture are fine.

Jack :

O.k then this is what i suspected, set your tv`s input to get back to the cable box

Jack :

Then disconnect the cable box power cord for a minute or so .

Jack :

Note that it will take another minute for the cable box to restart/reboot after you plug it back

Customer :

I do not have a cable box option on the input list. i will disconnect the cable box and see what happens.

Jack :

Actually you should try to get back the cable box picture first

Jack :

The cable box will be in one of those inputs

Customer :

It says no signal. In our area we often have to have the cable company resend a signal,

Jack :

do you know where you usually set your tv to watch the cable box ?
Which input ?

Jack :

You did reset the tv and if the cable box input had a name then you may have lost it, so just go through the different inputs until you see the cable box picture

Jack :

Make sure the cable box is turned on as well

Customer :

The only choises I have areBD,TV. HMDI2 and HMDI 3. Before I unplugged the cable box it was showing the number of the last station i was viewing. Now it is just blank with the power light on.

Customer :

Says No Signal.

Jack :

Is the cable box still unplugged ?

Customer :

no it is plugged in

Jack :

o.k but you did unplug it earlier ?

Jack :

i mean the power cord ?

Customer :

I thought I did, I can do it again, I unplugged the HDMI plug, whatever that is./i will go try to find the wall plug

Jack :

no please wait a minute

Jack :

Your cable box is most likely connected into the HDMI 1 input , can you set your tv to it ?

Customer :

Perhaps I am not smart enough for this "remote" help. i unplugged the power from the box, and plugged it back in now i have zero lights on the box, it flashed a second then went black. Blue ray still working - maybe it is no more TV for me.

Jack :

not at all

Jack :

The cable box may take a minute to reboot

Jack :

Also make sure you turn it on.

Jack :

Then press the input button on your tv`s remote and go through the different inputs until you find the cable box

Customer :

It is on now,

Customer :

The box I mean, still no picture or sound on the tv now.

Jack :

O.k now you have to find on which input it is connected

Jack :

press the tv`s input button on the remote and go through all the inputs if you have to

Jack :

the cable box is in one of those inputs

Jack :

You did reconnect that HDMI cable yes ?

Customer :

HDMI cable is connected, i only unplugged it for 30 seconds. I still do not have a cable choice on the input options. I can move thoroug the ca

Jack :

it won`t say cable in the input menu

Customer :

channel numbers on the box, but it brings up numbers that are not on the service, it is just running 1 - . . . . i used to have a picture, now nothing.

Jack :

just a list of the different inputs I.E HDMI 1,2,3, component etc

Jack :

Your tv is not on the correct INPUT

Customer :

Yes BR TV HDMI 2 HDMI3 and grayed out component 1,component 2 ?HDMI 1 Video 2

Jack :

Try HDMI 1

Customer :

DAH DAH I just moved it to HDMI 3 and it is back

Jack :

o.k then and you have sound ?

Customer :

What is the surcharge for being just plain ignorant re tv electronics. Sure wish I knew what I did to mess it up in the first place.

Jack :

No problem, the same price but if you ever loose the sound again, just unplug the cable box power cord for a minute

Jack :

They do loose sound every once in a while

Jack :

It is a common problem

Customer :

Just doouble checking if it works when I turn it back on. Please wait a minute.

Jack :

It will

Jack :

As i said this is a common problem for cable box`s and it usually happens when the cable company are doing updates to their system during the night

Customer :

It is only working through the Blue Ray, but that is porbably some nutty problem with all these remotes, tv, cable, blue ray, I think I can figure that out over time.

Jack :

You do not have the cable box back ??

Jack :

hello ?

Customer :

Cable box is back and all is well, except four now I have to go to the blue ray, change the input to HDMI 3 and then continue. Thank you so much for your help . Are you in the US or elsewhere? How do I know what your help will cost?

Jack :

It will cost what you posted which seems to be $38 at this point but i`m not the one that takes care of that dept.(just the repairman here)
