I have a Brother MFC-7340 machine and cannot FAX. I have been able to FAX in the past but feel that something has changed in the set-up possbly. After I enter the FAX phone number I hear the machine enter two tones before it dials the 10 digit number I entered. The number is XXXXX answered on the other end. What sort of change do I make to the set up to get away from this problem?
Hi and welcome to Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX will be assisting you today.
The first thing that we need to check is whether we're using Pulse or Touch Tones. Press Menu, press 0, press 4 and use the up and down arrow to select between the 2. Make sure that it's set on Tone. Press OK.
Next, let's check for Dialing Prefixes. Press Menu, press 0, press 5, then press OK. This will remove any prefixes as we dont need them. Try your fax again and see if you still have problems. I'll be around if you need more help.
Thanks,

I still get the same results, it still gives me two tones and then dials but does not get thru.
Very strange. Can you tell what the 2 tones are?
The two tones are the same as the dial tone. It gives two tones and then dials the 10 digit phone number. It sounds like the ringing begins before the 10 digit phone number is XXXXX input.
Yeah, there's a prefix being entered still before the number is XXXXX Is this a local or long distance number that your trying to fax to?
its a long distance number.
Click on Menu->Printer->Reset Printer->Reset. That should put the settings back to how they were out of the box. Let me know the outcome.
