Hi,

Is there any power light on the Altec Lansing sound system? Have you checked the sound cable connection to the computer; make sure it's connected all the way in?

What's the exact model of the Altec Lansing sound system?

If you remove the sound cable, then connect the headphones (or another speakers) to the same sound slot from the computer, does it work?

Do you have windows xp, vista, or 7, or mac? Are you able to adjust the volume on the computer's screen?

Thank you.

Model is FX 4021. Yes there is a light and a low hum from large speaker but no sound.
I have Windows 7.

Are you able to adjust the volume on the computer's screen?

Can you try the headsets to confirm?

Can you click on Start, then right-click on Computer, then click on Properties, then check if your System type: is 32-bit or 64-bit?

What's the brand and model of your computer?

Thank you.

Just tried headphones - no sound.
Tried a playlist which said there was no response from my audio equipment - either not plugged in or some other malfunction.
Computer is 32 bit Medion.

Yes I can adjust volume on Screen and it is set to manual as opposed to auto.

Did you remove the speakers' cable before connecting the headphones?

Can you go to Start->Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Sound and check if all speakers are enabled? Thanks.

Computer is telling me no audio devices are installed!

I cleaned up a bit recently before installing Windows 7 as upgrade from vista.
I didn't recognise a couple of programs eg a Realtek one and another I can't remember the name of.
Do you think I may have accidentally uninstalled a program that my Altec Lansing system needs to operate properly?

The problem is not the speakers/headphones; it's the computer. You need to download and install the audio/software driver for it.
Can you download and install the windows 7 sound driver at
http://www.medion.com/gb/service/download/driver.php?

Please let me know. Thank you.

Sorry for delay - computer nearly crashed when I was trying to see serial number/type following logging on to medion site as per your suggestion. To be honest I didn't understand half of the available downloads for my computer.
Is there any way you could tell me which I should download?
The serial number of my computer is 16615040020033.
Its a medion of type MED MT488G.
