I have an onkyo ht-r590. Today I turned it on and the surround

Resolved Question:

I have an onkyo ht-r590. Today I turned it on and the surround channels are scrambled. The surround R channel is playing through the surround L speaker. And the surround L and back left channels aren't playing at all. Help!

Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance...

Initially, the only easy user doable try of a check would be to set the listening mode to DIRECT. This is a test for the DSP (Digital Signal Processor).

Offhand, consider a RESET (if have not been done). As it implies, a reset would force the Onkyo to revert back to factory defaults removing any glitches but would include memories, presets and user preferences. Should you venture to try:

  • turn the Onkyo on;
  • press and hold the VCR/DVR button;
  • while still pressing on the above button, press ON/STANDBY;
  • display should show CLEAR;
  • the HT-R590 would go into standby mode.

A reset however would not be corrective of an internal hardware fault.

Please post back results of DIRECT mode and reset.
