My Sansui TV gets a black screen overlay on top of the tv channel

My Sansui TV gets a black screen overlay on top of the tv channel view, and runs a series of white letters/numbers/symbols. It starts with the date, then the time (whch is one hour later than its manually set time) then //: and something like trg:and a bunch of rapidly changing numbers/letters/symbols. Sometimes it's http://. It won't stop until I press a button, any button, then only stays off for a few seconds before beginning again. What's wrong with my TV and how can it be fixed?

While i could not find the manual for your tv and therefor cannot be specific about your menu, i know that what you have is "closed caption" in text mode.

Jack :

So perhaps this info may help you.

Jack :

Look on your remote control for a button called CC or CAPtion and press it, then you should be able to turn it OFF

Jack :

Otherwise you will find it in your tv`s menu under "closed caption", you will see that there are different type of caption, usually the type being used is CC1.
But in that same menu you will have the opyion to turn it OFF
