I have a General Electric CB radio Model 3-5813B mounted in a car I bought. I know it's a 40 channel radio but I need to know if the channel frequencies are in the 27Mhz range of CB channels or the 29 MHz range. I suspect that latter but need to know in order to connect to other similar radios. Can you pelsae advise the range of frequencies for this radio/transmitter? Kind regards Tim Cumming XXX@XXXXXX.XXX
Hi Tim,I hope this is what you are looking for .Here is the table for cb radio frequency use.It depends on the channel you select as to whether it is 27mhz or 29mhz.Another great source is here.Hope this helps
Hi Rob
This doesn't really help me. I know what all the channel numbers and frequencies are in "the system" but what I'm trying to find out is whether the particular GE transceiver I have "inherited" uses channels in 29 MHz range (which is the "old" CB bands range) or within the 27 MHz range (which is a different set of CB frequency bands). Most radios have "manuals" which set down the numbers of the channels on the radio and the frequencies associated with each channel. I'm trying to find such a manual for the GE radio. It's pretty old, hence the struggle
Thanks - I'll keep looking

Hi Tim, you certainly have your wires crossed about 29 MHZ having anything to do with CB. Actually 27 MHZ where CB is now, used to belong to Ham radio back in the 50's. The old 23 channel radios are in the 27 MHZ band. CB starts at the high end of 26 MHZ and ends at the mid part of 27 MHZ. It is illegal for anyone without a Ham radio licence to transmit on 28 to 30 MHZ and it is illegal to have a CB that is not type accepted. Any mods void that acceptance.
Your issue is easy to find out. All you need is a simple frequency counter to find out what channels you are on. No connection to the radio is required. Try a local radio shop, they may have a handheld unit to use.
The table below is the ONLY legal CB frequencys. Anything else is illegal unless you are a licensed Ham operator which still gives no authority above channel 40, the so called "Bandit Frequencies." The "OLD" cb channels are 1-23. The FCC expanded the channels to 40. Radios modified above channel 40 are illegal to operate and they can show up in the low part of the Ham's 10 meter band at 28 MHZ if modified. If anyone wants to operate on ham radio frequencies, I suggest they get a license. It is easy to get started and the test will confirm your knowledge of some simple electronic theory. This is a disiplined service and you are required to follow the laws of FCC part 97, just as CB people are to follow FCC part 95. rules and regs. It is not a free for all for either service.
CB radio diagrams are available through Sams Photofact CB series books. Regards XXXXX XXXXX hope this explains the situation for you. Brad

Hi Brad
I appreciate your response but it doesn't really apply to my circumstances as I was emailing this quesiton from South Africa where CB Channels 1-23 are actually within the 29 MHz band (as opposed to in places like Australia and UK etc. However, my question was answered when I finally got someone at the 4x4 shop nearby who knew the particular transciever I had inheirted along with the car!
Kind regards
Tim
Hi tim, I still did not find where CB is in 29 MHZ even in South Africa. According to what I found, There are only 9 channels that coorespond with USA frequencies. Glad you found out. Anyone would have given the same answer as to which country the expert lived in. I of course thought you were in the USA. Sorry but thanks for the info. Brad
