Hello and thank you for your question.

If I am not mistaken the only way to upgrade the firmware on your iPhone is to have it connected to your computer and synch with iTunes. I don't think you can just download it directly onto your iPhone.

Have you tried to connect the iphone to your computer and synch it up with iTunes?

Customer replied1551 days and 1 hours ago.

Im sorry, I'm not the most descriptive person... I did conect my iphone with the computer like I have for the last year and click sync every week or so and when a new update comes out I click update but for the past few weeks it keeps giving me that "Time Out" message

have you already tried to re-install iTunes?

Customer replied1551 days and 1 hours ago.

Yes, yesterday. I learned there was an update on that too which I did. I chose the option to un-install and reinstall.. Darren

Is the iPhone still under warranty? if so you may want to contact Apple Technical Support before you go and tinker around with it. If it is under warranty I would not mess with it and just get hold of Apple Technical Support because if you monkey with it trying to "fix" it they (Apple) will be say you did something to it so it is no longer serviceable under warranty.

Check you receipt and/or documentation to verify when the warranty runs out.

You can also check your warranty at the link below, you need your Serial #:

I have had the phone more than a year so No warranty! I had this problem before and when I called in to Apple phone they guided me to make it work no its a hundred $ to get them to help.. I just thought someone else would have had this same problem. I'm not a computer person so its frustrating for me to get, what you would think is a simple problem any issue resolved. I seem to always have "unusal" problems that no one else has experienced. :(

unfortunately I have not yet run into this issue with my wife's iPhone. We got an extended warranty and the top left side of her screen stopped responding and they replaced the unit.

I am sorry I was of not much help. I am going to opt out and so perhaps another Expert may be able to help you who may have run into this before..

Best Wishes!

HiCustomer Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer. The other Experts and I are working on your answer. By the way, it would help us to know:

Please turn off any antivirus or firewall before trying to update.
If that does not work try the following

In Windows these will be within a hidden folder. To see these files in my computer you will need to choose Tools > Folder Options, click View, and then select the "View and select Show Hidden Files and Folders" option.

  1. Go to C:/documents and settings/(Username)/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
  2. Remove all files in the iPhone Software Updates directory.
  3. Attempt to restore the iPhone again.
This information can be found here: Click Here

Thank you again for trusting us with your problem. Please reply as soon as possible so that we can finish answering your question.
