how do you adjust the action on a yamaha a3r guitar? just got it, and i fingerpick and strum. there's too much buzz, i hear it even if i start fingerpicking hard
Already Tried: looking puzzled
Does the guitar buzz only when playing certain frets or on certain strings? How old are the strings on it (even though it's new the strings may be old)?
I had the store put new elixir medium gauge strings on before I'd buy the guitar. I hear the buzz when i play with a pick on open chords (G, A, D, etc...). Since I got the guitar I've only been fingerpicking, or strumming with my thumb. I pulled out the pick the other night and started strumming and noticed the buzz. I've been doing some research on google, and wonder if adjusting the truss rod will raise the string height slightly. I could carry it back to Arts Music, but the store is about 60 mile from here.
That is actually why I asked if it was only buzzing on certain frets. Try the second fret on each string and see if it buzzes. Then go down to the fifth. If you find that it is only buzzing higher up on the neck adjusting the truss rod can help. Unfortunately however on an acoustic they are sometimes set in one spot and can not be moved, the action. on an acoustic also can not be changed (that is why Ibanez tends to make them lower than other companies). If the truss rod can be adjusted there will be a small plate on the headstock with a few screws on it. Remove them and then you will need an Allen key to adjust it. Do it very slightly testing the buzz afterwards and be very careful because if too tight it can snap the neck.
