Customer Question

I own a Yamaha P-80 digital stage piano. Can I feed synthesizer sounds through this keyboard unit? How would I do that? Is there an app for that? Software? I have a Macbook I could use, or an iPad. Thanks for helping me out!!! Doug

Hi, I'm Steve and will try to help you.

The P90 does not have it's own speakers so I think what you are asking me is: can I use the P90 as a keyboard controller and play the patches on other synths from this keyboard.

Is that your question?

Customer replied346 days and 16 hours ago.

Hi Steve!
It is actually a P80 Electronic Piano.
What I want to do is play other synthesizer sounds on this very same keyboard, as if it had synthesizer sounds built right in.
Are there ways to do this? It does have midi in ports.
Is this clear?

Ok, I though I read it was a P90.

Ok, the P80 does have speakers.

You can't connect the audio output from other instruments to this keyboard so you will not be able to 'hear' the other synths through the speakers in the P80.

What you can do though, is control other synths from the keyboard. Simply connect a midi cable from the Midi Out on the P80 to the Midi In on your other synth. By setting Midi channels you can play the synth from the keyboard.

Now, you will need external amplification for the other synth(s).

Does that clear things up fr you - I hope I'm understanding you correctly.

Let me know.

I'll be here if you need more help. I want you to be 100% satisfied with my answer. Please be sure to indicate if my answer was helpful.

Thanks very much.

Steve

Actually, I have external speakers connected to the P80.
Can I run sounds through the P80 from software or apps?
As I stated, I have Midi In connections, so I can hook up my Mac.
I just want to play the P80 and hear sounds OTHER THAN what's already programmed into the P80.
Thanks for helping me with this question. If successful, I won't have to go out there and buy another device such as a synth.

The P80 has no inputs to handle the audio from other instruments. Midi cables do not pass audio, only data. If you have software synths on your Mac, AND you have a midi interface for the Mac, you can play the soft synths on the Mac from your P80 but you would still need amplification for the synthsQuestions?Steve. Ok, this is progress.
So, if I connected the mac to really nice speakers, it could sound pretty awesome, huh?
Am I now understanding you correctly?
Thanks Steve!!!

Correct. Plus, if you bought a small 4 or 8 channel mixer, you could send audio from the piano AND the Mac and mix the levels together rather than having the piano sounds come from the Yamaha's speakers and the Mac sounds come from other speakers.

I hope that helps. I'll be here if you need more info.

Steve.

Who would be able to help me to implement this?
I know Sweetwater carries stuff, but I only want to buy what I need if you get my drift.

I would use Sweetwater. What parts do you need? Do you have a midi interface for your Mac?
