Hello, my name is Rusty. Is the A string quieter than the others? Did this just start happening?

If you just want it to be louder than the others, what note(s) are you trying to make louder?

I purchased the guitar several months ago on ebay. The A string has been a lower volume than the other five strings since I got it. This is the only problem so I decided to keep it. I can hear the A string when played alone, so I know that it is working, but when I play a chord, the A string is noticeably inaudible.

You have a problem with your pickup. I was going to suggest an equalizer to boost the frequency, but that won't work if the whole string is out. You need to replace the pickup.
If it is an active pickup, check the battery. It may be all that is wrong. Take the plate off the back, and get familiar with what's inside. Check for any loose wires. Solder joints can go bad in guitars.
