I have a M-Audio Prokeys 88SX keyboard that is about 5 years old. It does not power up. I have bought two new powerpaks to no avail. It appears the connection is loose.
Already Tried: new powerpaks
Hello,I am sorry to hear about the issue with your keyboard. I'll be happy to help in any way I can.A number of things can cause a keyboard to not power up. Some problems are simple to troubleshoot and repair and others are can be complicated and expensive. If the power jack actually feels loose then it is a fairly easy repair. What happens on adapter jacks like the one on your keyboard is that stress on the jack causes it to pull out of its solder connections. Sometimes it just needs to be resoldered. Other times the jack breaks, or it actually breaks the circuit traces on the board. All three versions of this problem are repairable, but will require some soldering skill, maybe a little jumper wire to repair broken traces, and possibly a new power jack. Were you planning on this fixing this yourself or were you looking for help finding a service center? If you are looking for a service center you can find a list of service centers in the USA on the Avid Audio web site. Here is a direct link to the specific page.If the product is out of warranty you can probably have any competent local technician repair the jack. For more complicated issues you may want to stick with an authorized service center from the list.I hope I have satisfactorily answered your question. If I have not fully addressed your question, or you need any more information on this issue, please feel free to revisit this page to post a follow-up question..
