Customer: I'm trying to install a dimmer switch on a room that has a ceiling fan. Can this be done? I know the dimmer can only control the light but i would like to use the fan also on the separate switch

1) You need 2 separate switches and 2 separate conductors from the wall switch box to the ceiling box.......ie......1 separate switched loop conductor from each wall switch. Do you have this in place?
