Customer Question

I have roughly the same situation as this question from 5 years ago. My line voltage thermostat operating an eight foot baseboard stopped working. I have the Marley M602 stat to replace it. I have black and white wires coming from the breaker and red and white from the stat. From the earlier question it seems as though I should connect black to black and red to white. However, I tried that and it tripped the breaker. I reversed it and tripped the breaker again. Any suggestions?

Give me the count and colors of all wires in the box and on the T-stat.
