Customer Question

The electricity went out in our neighborhood for an hour. When it came back on, the Thermador microwave oven did not light up. It does not respond to starting the clock again or anything else.

Hi, I'm Mike and I'll be assisting you. Please stand by while I review your question.

Plug something into the receptacle to monitor the power. If when the microwave doesn't work and the LP doesn't, the problem is the circuit. Otherwise it's the microwave. Knowing that we'll have direction for troubleshooting.

The problem is the circuit--the plug is not working.

  1. Do you have a 2 wire voltage tester?
  2. Is there anything else not working?
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
1. No.2. No.I think I need to get someone over here tomorrow to fix the problem.Thanks.

Very well. Good luck.

Have you checked the breaker box to make sure it did not trip?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I forgot to mention that I checked the breaker box first. A couple of months ago, the breaker box for the kitchen was tripped, and after resetting the switches, the microwave (and the oven) took several days to recover--they would keep shutting down). It turns out that I do have a 2 wire volt tester. However, I just reset the GFI switch for the kitchen outlets, and the power is back on for the microwave plugs. Hallelujah.

I spoke too soon. The 2 plug receptacle behind the microwave is dead again. This is getting spooky.

Have you tried replacing the breaker with a new one?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No, I'll do that next. Good suggestion. Keep your fingers crossed. Thanks.

Okay, give it a shot. Let us know

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Well, you were right. It was the breaker switch--it was burned on one side. I would never have guessed. Unfortunately it is so old that to get a replacement off the Internet will take another week. Thanks for the advice.
