Need to replace part of the lamp that holds the bulb. Bought

Customer Question

Need to replace part of the lamp that holds the bulb. Bought a Levity. Just want to make sure I connect the wires correctly.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: It's a Leviton. The lamp shorted out a few weeks ago.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: The replacement piece I bought has two screws. Do I separate the lamp's cord and attach one wire to each screw?

Hello and welcome to Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to assist you with your electrical question.

1) What are colors of the 2 socket screws? Brass & silver?

2) What are the wire wire colors in the cord? Also brass & silver?

Expert:  Kevin replied 13 days ago.

1) The socket should contain 1 brass screw for the hot and 1 silver screw for the neutral.

2) If one of the cord wires is ribbed or contains writing on the insulation, that is the neutral wire.

3) If one of the cord wires is smooth and does not contain writing on the insulation, that is the hot wire.

4) Yes, terminate 1 wire to each screw.
