This problem can be in your transfer switch ( bad/ dirty ) contacts but is also and more ikely to be in your auto ignition module.
Expert:  machinc replied 7 months ago.
The auto ignition module also turns the generator off when power is restored.

Depending on the age of your generator there is the possibility of loose or dirty connections
Expert:  machinc replied 7 months ago.
Be sure to disconnect the generator battery when checking
these connections

Replacing the module would
most likely correct the problem.
They can be damaged by lightning or just age.

As expensive as these modules are it may be best in the long run to have a professional check the unit to verify the source of the problem

If you are comfortable with circuit trouble shooting procedures and working with voltage you can narrow the trouble down yourself.
Expert:  machinc replied 7 months ago.
You will need to verify voltage is getting to the generator starter module when the transfer switch
Is in the off position so the generator will shut down.
This opens the run circuit like turning off the ignition key on a car.
Expert:  machinc replied 7 months ago.
Part of the module is working (as you know ) because the generator will start when there is a power failure.

This all can be a bit much for some , however it can he done.
Once again if you are not comfortable with this yourself a call to a ptofessional will give you a sure thing and possibly a warranty on parts and labor.
