I want to install a 20 amp/120 volt receptacle at the end of

Customer Question

I want to install a 20 amp/120 volt receptacle at the end of our 450' driveway. Voltage drop calculator suggests I need to run #2 al conductor to handle the voltage drop of 3% or less. Will a 20 amp breaker accept #2 al conductor at the panelboard?

Hi, I'm Mike G and I'll be assisting you. No it won't. You'll need to splice a #12 wire to it and attach it to the breaker. That type of splice is acceptable in the panel.

Is there a special connector or will a specific wire nut handle the #2 to #12 splice.
Expert:  Mike G. replied 4 months ago.

Copper to copper, use a blue or gray wire but. If aluminum to copper, use a divided split bolt and tape it.
