Hi Diane. Welcome to Just Answer.
If the smoke detector is like the units here in the USA, it should have a battery in it for backup power.
Have you tried opening the unit to look for a battery?
OK. One moment please.
No problem. A call to Australia would be pretty expensive anyway.
I apologize for the delay. I was wrapping up with another customer.
Since you don't know where the circuit breaker is, and it would be unsafe to disable all units anyway, your best bet is to temporarily take the chirping unit down. Are there other detectors in the property?
Are you able to post a photo of the chirping unit here?
I don't have an Apple phone, unfortunately. But we could try Skype. I've never used Skype before though. If you want to try uploading the photo here, there should be a paper clip icon on your toolbar near the text box where you type your messages to me. Or, you can post the photo to a photo hosting site and post a link here for me to view it. Some customers have used Dropbox with pretty good success.
The site may take some time to get the photo to me. I'll look it over and reply as soon as I get it.
I understand. This particular issue is a bit difficult to address through this medium. I'll put in for a refund for you right now. Sorry it didn't work out.
