I have a Hunter fan and when turning on my light one evening, there was a pop and a flash and one bulb became scorched.

From your description it sounds like you may have pulled the chain a but too hard during the excitement and damaged the switch. If you have a multimeter or a test light you could verify that one side of the pull switch is getting power. The original pop could have been a lamp blowing, just a coincidence that it happened when it did. If you have power going to the switch but not coming out of it this which would need to be replaced.
