When finishing the basement in my Daughter and son in laws

Customer Question

When finishing the basement in my Daughter and son in laws house, I noticed the metal conduit coming down the wall was badly rusted and you could see droplets on pipe, when you wipe it off it smells like battery acid. Is this harmful as this is going to be a play room for her kids 1 being disable. I have removed and attached wires to wooden studs. What causes this? Thanks Nick S Ragan from PA

Hi,I'm Mike G and I'll be assisting you. From your description I suspect either condensation from humidity in the basement or possibly water infiltration from the exterior. Without seeing it I'm limited as to saying what it is.
