I have taken down an old T12 ballast florescent light to put

Customer Question

I have taken down an old T12 ballast florescent light to put up a new T-8and stupidly did not draw a diagram of the wiring. It is a three way switch. In the hall there is a switch that turns the light on in the hall and the next two rooms. Or the lights can be turned on or off in the room. Coming down from the ceiling there is a hot line which consists of a black-red-white and green wire. Another line coming down with a white green and black how do I rewrite to the ballast

Hi, I'm Mike G and I'll be assisting you

Did I read your description correctly? There is only a 3 wire & a 2 wire cable at the fixture? Do you have as 2 wire voltage tester?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No there is a four wire and a three wire
Expert:  Mike G. replied 10 months ago.

Grounds don't count. Do you have a 2 wire tester?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

Mike why did the payment not go through
Expert:  Mike G. replied 10 months ago.

I only get the notification, not a reason.

Expert:  Mike G. replied 10 months ago.

The pigtail works. Which wire is hot?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

I tried fixing phone problem still did not work for some reason
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I believe that the whte and black wire are going down to the switch in the room and the red black and white one is coming from the switch in the hall (the feed-hot)
Expert:  Mike G. replied 10 months ago.

From the number and colors of the wires, I'll give you the connection that should be made.

1) connect the black from the ballast and the red together.

2) connect all whites together

3) connect the remaining blacks together.

Test and let me know if the issues is resolved.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
the only thing getting connected to the ballast is the one red and the two blacks will be connected together
As a stand alone

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

Expert:  Mike G. replied 10 months ago.

Jest return as you have been doing.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Well Mike, no sucess today popped the breaker could not find the right breaker without kicking them all off and back on so will have to call the electrician in the morning. Too many computers in offices to be kicking all the breakers off and back on. Could not see which one had kicked.
Expert:  Mike G. replied 10 months ago.

Your decision. If you touch the breaker handles and one is tripped, it will feel loose in comparison to the others. Good luck, I could only suggest the way they should have been wired by color. I'll opt out.
