Welcome. My name is ***** ***** would be glad to assist. The water heaters junction box , should have a red and black wire with a green grounding screw. Can you verify this?Black wire grounded in the heater junction is not correct and we need to see if someone just used some wire they had on hand or something else.Ground is for green or bare wireCheck exactly what that black wire connects to at the heater.

Electrician needs to update himself on ALL NEW MODEL current electric water heaters in all states. Green grounding wires have not been used for a few years now. There is a BLACK wire with green ground screw. his black wire is held in place in junction box bottom with a back plastic wiring retaining lug. I will submit that for free!!
