Hi, I am a industrial electrician but stil learning the troubleshooting aspects of the job. I have a 40HP 3phase 460v motor that won't start. It megged >4000 on phase to ground and ohmed 0 even though it was beeping like it was connecting. I am using a Fluke 1520. Also the starter is functioning but has a very loud hum...louder than normal...could this mean it is weak or about to fail?
Hi, I'm Mike and I'll be glad to assist you. The hum you detect could be one of 2 things. Either you have a bad capacitor or the centrificle switch is stuck in the running position.
