Im working on a generater switching it from single phase to three phase we need to get 460 volts how many volts per lag do we need generater is twelve wire also should i use delta configuration or y configuration i need to run a electric motor that is 460 volts

I prefer the wye configuration, when I have a choice.

Jason :

If you do choose to set it up in a wye configuration, each leg to ground or neutral should be 277 volts.

Jason :

Any hot leg to either of the other two hot legs should be 480 volts.
