I put in 2 light fixtures in a bathroom remodel to be controled by 1 switch. I ran both fixtures to the switch box. How do I connect the 2 lights the switch and hot lines?

Sparky :

Hello, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I'm here to answer any of your electrical questions.

Sparky :

Just so I understand you ran 1 individual romex to each light and you want them both to turn on with 1 switch?

Customer:

Thats right

Sparky :

Are there other switches in that box that you will be working with?

Customer:

no

Sparky :

Are all of the wires in the box, black and white? any reds?

Customer:

no reds

Sparky :

ok put all of your whites together with a wire nut.

Customer:

ok

Sparky :

Then take your black wires, all except the new ones that you ran to the fixtures. Add a short piece of wire about 8" to the blacks and put them together with a wire nut. The 8" piece will go to one end of your switch. Then do the same with your 2 black wires that are going to your light fixtures, add a piece like the one I just mentioned, and this wire will go to the other end of the switch.

Customer:

now on the switch do I attack all 3 blacks

Sparky :

You should only have 2 blacks if you read my instructions.

Sparky :

The short pieces that you are adding on.

Customer:

I typed before you replied sorry

Sparky :

oh, got it.

Customer:
