Hello and Thank you for posting on www.justanswer.com. My name is Alex and I'm here to help you.

Did you check breakers if any is tripped?

Do you have volt meter with two probes?

Can you also check if there are any other outlets that are not working?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Do you know which breaker is for that outlet and fan? Can you also check gfci's around if they are reset?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
what is gfci? there is a breaker for only 2nd floor. number 5 and 6 in the box. my electrician friend said sometimes the White wire on the fan is not the white wire. if this is true, which wire would be the white? a black or a black & white?

Hi, I'm Mike and I'll be glad to assist you. To troubledhoot the problem a 2 wire voltage tester is required. You need one to determine exactly what the issue is before you go looking for it. Testers are avaiable at any home center for around $20.00. Pick one up and I'll walk you through finding the problem.
