John D. :

Hi my name is XXXX XXX I look forward to resolving your electrical problems.

Is there a bare copper ground wire coming from the Panel? Does your dryer have a 3 or 4 prong plug? It is likely that you will need 10-3 NM wire to extend the circuit.

John D. :

You have the color matching correct. 10-3 NM wire will have an additional bare copper ground to connect to the ground coming from the panel.

Customer :

No bare copper coming from panel. The house was originally built in 1971.

John D. :

Is you dryer plug 3 or 4 prong?

Customer :

The plug that is on there is three

Customer :

i'm getting ready to head to lowes. The Outlet that was there is not in good condition and I want to get a new outlet.

Customer :

I just looked and the dryer is configured for a three prong wire

I would still use 10-3 NMB wire that has a black, red, white, and bare copper ground. I would connect the conductors by color together, leaving the bare copper ground unconnected. This way you will maintain the circuit integrity as originally wired. Also, purchase a new 3 prong 30 amp dryer receptacle.
