AssuredElectrical :

Hi, Welcome to Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXX would be glad to assist.

AssuredElectrical :

So, did this trip the Circuit Breaker?

AssuredElectrical :

What do you need assistance with at the moment to get you going?

Customer :

When I did it, I forgot it was on and it blew up. I bought another plug in and it didn't work, and so I bought a used dryer, I put all the parts to the receptical in, but it is still not turning on. I put the ground wire on top(the round one) then red and black in the sides that look like a plug in, and then I put white wire on the bottom where there is an l shape. Do I need to scrape the four wires of to get a fresh start on the wires?

AssuredElectrical :

so this a dryer Outlet?

Customer :

Yes

AssuredElectrical :

ok

AssuredElectrical :

yes, the red and black go to the sides, the neutral (white) to the L and the ground to the round opening screw

AssuredElectrical :

So, you say that is how you connected it back?

Customer :

I tried, I put the ground wire on the circle one, and it still won't turn on. Should I cut the wire off and put new wire in there?

AssuredElectrical :

Have you tested the dryer outlet with a Voltage tester? How do you know there is no power?

AssuredElectrical :

did the dryer come with a 4 prong cord? or did you change that also?

Customer :

It came with a 4 prong cord. I don't know what to get to test the voltage?

AssuredElectrical :

have you reset the breaker?

Customer :

yes

AssuredElectrical :

and it rest OK? didnt trip back out?

Customer :

I turned it off and then on again.

AssuredElectrical :

ok

AssuredElectrical :

have opened the back of the dryer to see whee the cord is connected to the terminals?

AssuredElectrical :

sounds like you have the dryer receptacle properly wired

Customer :

The dryer is a different one and it should be okay.

AssuredElectrical :

so, you changed dryers because the first one did not work?

AssuredElectrical :

if you dont look, how do you know?

Customer :

Actually, I am afraid to do that. I just know it is in the receptical, because it blew up and it hasn't worked since.

AssuredElectrical :

ok, what started the problem. I missed something.

Customer :

My dryer belt came off and I could not afford to pay the guy to come out and fix it. I ordered a dryer belt and put it on, but I had to take the dryer

Customer :

completely apart and I had to move the dryer. I forgot the electricity was on and I stuck a screw driver between the plug and the receptical to get it apart

AssuredElectrical :

ok, with ya so far

Customer :

and the electricity blew up. I have put on new cord on the dryer and everything and nothing worked. so I got a new dryer and it still doesn't work.

AssuredElectrical :

ok, just making sure of events

AssuredElectrical :

and if the dryer cords were installed properly

AssuredElectrical :

4 prong cords have to be wired correctly also

AssuredElectrical :

are the wires burned or charred inside the receptacle after you put the new one in?

AssuredElectrical :

they need to be clean so you see copper

Customer :

I put a whole new receptical on. So I guess I should clean the wire and hope that will solve the problem?

AssuredElectrical :

If you get it clean, and wired with the red and black to the outside, the white to the bottom L, and the ground to the round opening. It will be wired properly. So if you turn on the breaker and nothing happens, the breaker could have been damaged or the cord on the dryer is not correct.

AssuredElectrical :

There isnt anything else between. The breaker to receptacle, and then to the dryer

Customer :

God bless you

Customer :

God bless you Tommy.
