Customer Question

My Ceiling Fan almost fell off, wires snapped. Now several lights in two rooms do not work. I cannot replace the fan at the moment but need the lights, any easy fix?

Hi, I'm Mike and I'll be glad to assist you. Give me a count and color of the wires in the box. Do you have a 2 wire Voltage tester?

Customer replied 341 days and 9 hours ago.

White, brown, red, purple, blue and yellow coming from the ceiling before the fan blades. I think I may have a voltage tester but need to look. I was wondering if I can cap it off or something to still get electric to the other lights or if I need to change it all out completely.

Customer replied 341 days and 8 hours ago.

When it happened the part above the blades fell and it was an obvious short, almost a popping sound. The Switch in the breaker will stay on but when hitting the test button it fails to respond.

We need to identify the wires. You have a feed pair, swith leg or 2 switch legs and pass through wires. The pass through wires are the ones causing the outage in other rooms. If possible, take a picture of the box, showing the wires within.

Customer replied 341 days and 8 hours ago.

I really know nothing about this stuff so I apologize but do you mean the circuit box or the actual little plastic boxes connecting the wires within the fan?

The ceiling box that the fan was mounted on. Count and colors.

Customer replied 341 days and 8 hours ago.

ok, I need to dissemble more of it, my ladder would only reach the part to take off the blades, they are high ceilings, I can work on it and message back, if the wires the would be going directly into the fan is enough I can take a picture

Disconnect the fan wires and cap them. Then you can take a picture.

I Ended up rigging a way up to the ceiling, not the smartest way I may add but I got up their. I finally disconnected the whole thing and capped the wires. Sure enough it was the fan connection that was messing up everything. Lights work and I now know how to reconnect the fan. I wouldn't have spent the time
Without you saying to disconnect and cap, much appreciated.

Very good, glad your all set. Fans need an approved box to mount to. You'll need to install one if you intend on rehanging the fan.

Yeah it had a box but it looked like the previous owner screwed a lot of stuff up, I checked my living room fan and that was really loose too, well now I know, cheers mate.
