Customer Question

I am planning on putting 200 Amp Panel in a walk in closet that is 7'x9' is this largest enough footage to meet code. My architect has it drawn in on my plans and the county has issued a building permit with this included. Just want to make sure before I proceed and get the work done and then the inspecotor make me move it.

JACUSTOMER-0ix4l2x2- :

It is against the NEC to locate an electrical panel inside of a clothes closet, Kitchen or bathroom

JACUSTOMER-0ix4l2x2- :

240.24d is the code section.

Customer :

This is code no matter what the size of the walk in closet?

JACUSTOMER-0ix4l2x2- :

Local codes vary in the distance required between an electrical breaker panel and potentially ignitable materials. Some closets may be large enough to provide sufficient distance between the breaker panel and the clothes to meet the electrical code clearance requirements. To avoid any issues, it's best to consult with your local building department regarding your particular situation.
