I am renting a house while mine is being repaired. The house is approx. 50 years old, located on the bay (salt water). I am having problems with electrial surging. The surging seems to be all through the house, on every circuit. There does not seem to be any excessive power loss due to large use items going on and off. It is fairly constant even when almost everything is turned off. The ceiling fans almost stop turning, lights almost go out etc. I doesn't seem to effect the TV's or computers. The landlord has sent someone out to look for the problem, he just says the house is old and is overloaded due to added electrical useage. It is 200 amp. service. I don't think the man is an certified electriction. We are renting the house because our home was destroyed by an electrical caused fire. Don't want to go there again.
Hi, I'm Mike and I'll be glad to assist you. The condition you described would suggest that the neutral has a bad connection or corrosion at a connection. In as much as it is through out the whole house, it is either in the service equipment or ahead of the Panel. I would suggest that you call the utility for a trouble call to check their connection and should they say their neutral is OK, Call a better electrician. The so called electrician telling you it was because the house was old, wasn't much of an electrician.
