I want to run a shop vac when I use my dewalt bench top saw or router. Will a 20 ampbreaker be ok in my garage? The garage outlets currently are wired in with several circuts in the hse (1970 build). Howdifficult would it be to get the garage wires out of the bundle? I have a extra 20 amp breaker in the box an electician left when he added new circuts for bsmt project 2 years ago.
The saw and shop Vac should have name plate on it and it should say amp, watt or KW and volts. Can you tell me for each?
saw 15 amp , vac is ridid 6.5 hp Can't find the tag as car is in and space is tight.
When I tried to run both b4 of couse the lights went out along with the equip stopping.
That was when I found out about all the stuff on the old breaker. Must not have had real codes in the 70's. ;-)
Did you get my aswear to your ?
My suggestion would be to leave existing outlet alone and run at least on 20 amp circuit and install the outlet just for saw. If you had room for 2 breakers it would be better if you run 2 circuits for all your power tools. You will also need to install gfci outlets .Let me know if you have more questions.
