I accidentally cut through a electrical wiring while working

Customer Question

I accidentally cut through a electrical wiring while working in my attic. About 4" of wiring was damaged. So far, I haven't been able to find what area of the house it effects. Can it be repaired, or does the entire length of wire need to be replaced?

Here is what you need to do. Shut down the power. Then cut the wire in half at the point where the wire is damaged. Then get yourself 2 junction boxes. Install one J-box at one of the cut points. Then cut the other piece back about 1'. Then install the other junction box and run a jumper wire between the two. This will fix your problem.
