Are you trying to purchase a book from your Kindle device? If there is a gift card balance sufficient to cover a digital purchase, the payment will always be drawn from the gift card. You should not need the enter the card info again.
Please provide detailed information regarding exactly what you are trying to do and HOW you are trying to do it. Are you using a Kindle device to try to purchase a book, or you trying to purchase something on your computer from Amazon? Exactly what happens when you try to check out?

Make sure that you have ONE CLICK ORDERING TURNED ON. If it wasn't on before, after you turn it on, sync your Kindle and try again to place your order.

I believe that if you will make sure that One Click ordering is turned on, it will resolve your problem. One click ordering needs to be on so you can place orders from your Kindle. Your Kindle will then automatically use the gift card until is has been used up. When the balance on the card reaches 0 it will charge your default form of payment. All payment info needs to be entered at the Amazon website. Your Kindle pulls from there.
