I cannot open my Kindle. What should I do? It was a gift

Customer Question

I cannot open my Kindle. What should I do?
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: It was a gift about three years ago. I don't know where to find the model -- It is an Amazon Kindle Fire.
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Two days -- have not done any troubleshooting. It started when I could no longer access my books or games, and now it won't even open.
JA: Anything else you want the ereader expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: Don't believe so.

Hi, I'm Sadique. Welcome to JustAnswer. I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply ASAP.

Lets try resetting your kindle; follow the steps below:

1) Plug in your Kindle to the charger.

2) Press and hold the Power button on the bottom of the device for about 25 seconds and then release the switch.

3) Please press and hold your kindle for atleast 25 seconds. If you only hold the Power button for only 5 to 10 seconds you'll just turn the unit OFF. So you have to hold the power button for atleast 25 seconds.

Tell me if it makes any difference to your problem.
