My kindle will not hold a charge, no matter how i keep it

Customer Question

My kindle will not hold a charge, no matter how long i keep it charging. It is 6 years old. I think the battery may need replacing. Where can I get a new one and what kind do I need ?
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: It is the original Kindle. I have had it 6 years.
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: It has been going on for about 3 months. I have tried a different charger, and also leaving it charging all night.
JA: Anything else you want the ereader expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: Can't think of anything else.

Hi, I'm Nathan.
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble, but I'll do my best to help you. Please give me a few moments to review your details here.

This symptom can indicate several possible issues: an internal hardware failure, a low/faulty battery, or just a simple memory/firmware glitch.

The first step here will be to attempt to reboot the kindle. This is done by pressing/sliding and holding the power button for 20+ seconds, or until the screen flashes (usually with an image of a tree), then release. Give the kindle about a minute to start back up, and let me know if the problem persists, we can then try some further steps, up to and including the battery. If it comes to that, I can help you with parts and instructions too.

After I did that, I have an icon of the plug and a zigzag lightning bolt, not a tree.

Do you still have it plugged in?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
it is still plugged in.

Please unplug it before doing the reset.
