Just purchased a Kindle. I cannot get it set up. Every time

Just purchased a Kindle White. I cannot get it set up. Every time I enter my password, I get a msg stating it's incorrect.
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: It's a kindle white and I just purchased from Amazon and received 10/27.
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Just started trying to get it registered yesterday. I've done no troubleshooting because I didn't know what to try.

Customer: I already have an amazon account but apparently I need to register this kindle.
