Unless you have both permanently removed the old kindle from your account (deregistered it online) AND set the new kindle as your default, this will continue to happen.
You will have to update this on your computer, on amazon.com. It is not an automatic process.
There are a few easy steps to fix this though.
On this page, click on the DEVICES tab at the top left,
click the old kindle, then deregister.
Then click the new one, and set as default.
After that, reboot the kindle by pressing/sliding and holding the power button for 20+ seconds, and it should operate normally from there.
